DTI Living Innovation Event 2004

Bolton TIC was delighted to be chosen as the Northwest Case Study in the DTI's Living Innovation Event in 2004. Venues across the UK received a live satellite broadcast from the Palm House, Sefton Park, Liverpool. The event was facilitated by Fiona Bruce, voted newscaster of the Year at the Television and Radio Awards 2003, and th e key speakers were Sir Christopher Evans of Merlin Bioscience and Simon Woodroffe of Yo! Sushi!


To introduce the event, Bolton TIC was the first of three case studies to be presented to the UK-wide audience of business leaders.

Bolton TIC was also one of the venues for the event, hosted by Chamber Business Enterprises of Manchester. During the day, more than 200 young
people from schools across the town visited the centre to see a technology and innovation exhibition which was supported by regional universities, and innovative companies. When a group of 45 children from a local primary school was leaving the centre, they were asked : 'Which
bit of the exhibition did you like best?. They replied : 'Everything!'

In the evening, business leaders also enjoyed the exhibition, the satellite broadcast from Liverpool, and a dinner. The after-dinner
speaker was John Getty, who's company PDS Engineering Ltd provided the engineering support behind Richard Noble in the World Land Speed record, and many other record-breaking ventures.

Science and Innovation Summit

Bolton TIC responded to the Government's Science and Innovation 10-year Investment Framework consultation, and also exhibited at the Science and Innovation Summit held at the QE II Conference Centre, London. Over 300 delegates from across the UK attended this event, where the concept of Bolton TIC was well received. Bolton TIC were able to attend this event through the kind support of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and GovNet Communications Limited.
